Hamagshimim focuses mostly on cultural Israel programming.
Some of Hamagshimim's programs this year included:
An Israel Fair, Israeli dancing, Caravan for Democracy, Israeli Movie Night, Massage a' Spa (with Ahava products), Indoor Rock Climbing, and a Beit Cafe.
Tagar is more politically oriented.
Some of Tagar's programs this year included:
An Israel advocacy speaker, a speaker about the truth in Jenin, an Israeli Shabbat Dinner, a Boat Cruise and Israeli musical genius David Broza Live in Concert!
In addition to these two groups, there is a Grinspoon Israel Advocacy intern on campus who works as a connector between these groups and is involved in all things Israel on campus.
Also, once a week, there is a Shulchan Ivrit, or Hebrew speaking table, at which students gather to learn and practice Hebrew as well as sit together as a community in Dutch dining hall.
Through all of these outlets, there is consistently Israel engagement programming at University at Albany.
Simple Israel Engagement Tip: Keep track of the students that are specifically interested in Israel programming on campus; make a special note next to their name on the listserv or make a mental note. Contact them personally every time there is an Israel program on campus that you think they might be interested in.
Hamagshimim's student leaders for next year are Andrew Genger, Dan Muth, Dara Stofenberg, Ariel Cohen, Rachel Harris, Ayal Cohn, and Saul Maslansky.
Tagar's student leaders for next year are Jason Kersch, Revi Aranbaev, Sara Berger, Shamir Cohen, Sam Gilman, and Max Wein.
